Student Alumni Foundation Recognizes Outstanding Senior Award Recipients At Mortar Board Honors Convocation

UNK- Six University of Nebraska at Kearney students have been chosen as recipients of the Student Alumni Foundation Outstanding Senior Award.

The Outstanding Senior Award recognizes seniors for excellence in scholarship and leadership, as well as involvement in and dedication to UNK and the Kearney community. The recipients were honored at the recent UNK Mortar Board Honors Convocation. . Recipients of the Outstanding Senior Award include:

Lea Schneider is an exercise science major from Grand Island. She is a member of Alpha Phi sorority where she has been president and vice president of program development. She served on the Panhellenic Council and has been a resident adviser. She has served as a team captain for Relay for Life, participated in a Salvation Army coat drive and worked the Alpha Phi Red Dress Poker Tournament fund-raiser. She was a student leader for Summer Advising and Enrollment and was named the 2007 UNK Homecoming Queen.

Heather Wolf is a communications disorders major from Kearney. Wolf is a student diplomat for the Office of Undergraduate Recruitment and Admissions. She is also a member of Phi Eta Sigma honor society and Kearney Student Speech/Language and Hearing Association. She is an alumna of Alpha Phi sorority where she served as director of philanthropy and director of new member education. In addition, she has participated in numerous volunteer opportunities, including: Good Samaritan hospital admissions, Honey Sunday, Light in the Night, and Alpha Phi’s Teeter Totter-a-thon and Red Dress Poker Tournament.

Amber Vlasnik is a math and history secondary education major from Lincoln. She is a member of the Honors Program, Mortar Board and Campus Crusade for Christ. She served as a Chancellor’s Ambassador and was a student diplomat for the Office of Undergraduate Recruitment and Admissions. Vlasnik is a member of the Kappa Mu Epsilon, Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Eta Sigma and National Residence Hall honor societies. She has been involved in many service opportunities, including tsunami relief in Ranong, Thailand in the summer of 2007.

Amber Lewis is a history and English secondary education major from O’Neill. She was the 2007-2008 student body president/student regent. During her time at UNK, Lewis has been involved in the First Year Program, Mortar Board, Women’s Center, Women’s Studies Advisory Council, UNK Welcome Desk, and Student Government. She has volunteered for the Big Event and Senior Day at UNK, and at Development Unlimited Day Care Center.

Angela Reynolds is a business administration employee management major from Wood River. Reynolds is a member of the Honors Program, a Chancellor’s Ambassador and president of the Antelope Hall Council. Reynolds is a member of the National Residence Hall Honor Society, Phi Eta Sigma, Phi Kappa Phi, Beta Gamma Sigma and Rho Alpha Sigma. She has served as the coordinator of the Big Event, president of Cornerstone UNK and participated in Alternative Spring Break. She will participate in a student summer research program and is the incoming student body vice president.

Kerri Myers is a mathematics education major from Garden City, Kan. Myers has been involved in Alpha Omicron Pi sorority, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble and Kearney Area Symphony Orchestra. She is a member of the following honor societies: Phi Eta Sigma, Phi Kappa Phi, Delta Omicron and Kappa Mu Epsilon. Her volunteer service includes: Relay for Life, Habitat for Humanity, Campus Kitchens and the Alpha Omicron Pi dodgeball tournament fund-raiser for the Arthritis Foundation. She is also the treasurer for Mortar Board.
