KEARNEY – The University of Nebraska at Kearney chapter of Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society inducted 110 new student members at its initiation banquet April 19.
UNK faculty members Amy Nebesniak and Letty Reichert were inducted as honorary members.
Founded in 1923, Phi Eta Sigma is the nation’s oldest and largest honor society for first-year college and university students in all disciplines.
Its mission is to encourage and reward academic excellence among freshmen in institutions of higher learning. There are over 370 chapters across the United States, with more than one million inducted members nationally.
Students who are invited to join Phi Eta Sigma have earned a GPA of at least 3.5 during their first year at UNK. The UNK chapter, chartered in 1984, engages in campus and community service and promotes scholarship through annual awards to selected chapter members. Robert Luscher serves as the chapter’s faculty advisor.
