UNK Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble perform spring concert

The University of Nebraska at Kearney Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble performed a joint concert Wednesday night at the Fine Arts Recital Hall on campus.

The Wind Ensemble performed four pieces: “Mother Earth” by David Maslanka, “Concerto for Trumpet” by Alexander Arutiunian with a trumpet solo by UNK senior Sadie Uhing, “Halcyon Hearts” by Katahj Copley and “Dark Filaments” by Michael Ptacin. UNK senior Connor Morrison conducted the latter piece.

The Symphonic Band concluded the evening with an additional four pieces: “Drive” by Patrick Poszell, “Blessed are They” by Johannes Brahms with arrangement by Barbara Buehlman, “Wilderness” by Cait Nishimura and “Whip and Spur Galop” by Thomas S. Allen with arrangement by Ray E. Cramer. Uhing conducted the first piece.

The Wind Ensemble is directed by Duane Bierman and the Symphonic Band is directed by Brian Alber.
