PHOTOS & VIDEO: Demolition, removal of former UNK heating plant underway

Demolition of UNK’s former heating plant began Friday, when Blessing Construction of Kearney tore down the building on the east side of campus. The heating plant, located south of the Nebraskan Student Union, was taken offline in 2009 when the current central utilities plant opened along University Drive. The east heating plant and Conrad Hall, which also will be removed, will be replaced by green space and an outdoor plaza for students living in new fraternity and sorority housing scheduled to open in 2022 or 2023.
