Following months of abatement work and site preparation, construction crews began demolition Thursday morning of the Otto C. Olsen building at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Demolition of UNK’s former heating plant began Friday, when Blessing Construction of Kearney tore down the building on the east side of campus. The heating plant, located south of the Nebraskan Student Union, was taken offline in 2009 when the current central utilities plant opened along University Drive.
