Dr. Neal Schnoor, priority candidate for UNK chancellor, was formally introduced Wednesday during a press conference in Lincoln. The event included comments from Schnoor, University of Nebraska System President Dr. Jeffrey Gold, Regent Paul Kenney and UNK Student Regent Sam Schroeder.

A Nebraska native and first-generation college graduate, Schnoor has more than 30 years of experience in higher education leadership, instruction and strategic planning. He’s served as president of Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota, since 2021. Prior to NSU, he was chief of staff to the president at California State University, Long Beach.

Schnoor previously spent more than a decade at UNK, serving as an associate professor and director of bands from 1997 to 2010 and as senior advisor to the chancellor from 2012 to 2019.

As part of the public vetting process, Schnoor will visit the UNK campus and community to engage with students, faculty, staff and the broader Kearney community. Details on public participation and engagement will be announced in advance of the visit.
