Gallup leader Donald Clifton will deliver the winter commencement address on Friday, Dec. 21 at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Commencement will begin at 10 a.m. at the Health & Sports Center.
Clifton was an instructor at the University of Nebraska for 19 years (1950-1969). In 1969 he resigned as a Professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Nebraska and founded Selection Research, Inc. The company grew to become nationally recognized in the fields of personnel selection, management research, and survey research. In 1988 Selection Research, Inc. acquired the Gallup Organization, Inc. and this new organization became the Gallup Organization. The company is best known for The Gallup Poll. Past Chairman of Gallup, Inc., Donald Clifton is now Chairman of the Gallup International Research and Education Center.
Clifton will address the 367 graduates, 310 bachelor degree candidates and 57 graduate degree candidates. Mahibir Pun of Nepal will give the invocation while Jessica Linn of Omaha will present the senior class response at the ceremony. Kelly Ziegler of Scottsbluff will give the benediction at the conclusion of the graduation ceremony. Andrea Moomey of Holdrege will sing the national anthem.
Regent Kent Schroeder of Kearney will extend greetings on behalf of the University of Nebraska Board of Regents and John Ryan of Omaha, president of the UNK Alumni Association, will extend greetings on behalf of the association. Special music will be provided by the UNK Choraleers, under the direction of Professor David Bauer, and the UNK Symphonic Band, under the direction of Professor Neal Schnoor.
Dr. Joseph White will address honors students and their families at the Honors Convocation breakfast preceding the graduation ceremonies. White has enjoyed a distinguished career in the fields of psychology and mental health as a teacher, mentor, administrator, clinical supervisor, writer, consultant and practicing psychologist.
White and Clifton will receive Distinguished Service Awards during the ceremony from UNK Chancellor Gladys Styles Johnston.
