University of Nebraska at Kearney graduate Samuel Buss has been awarded the Ruth Weimer Mount Fellowship from the Mortar Board National College Honor Society for the 2026-27 academic year.
He will receive $3,500 to pursue a Doctor of Pharmacy at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
Buss is a high-achieving pharmacy student at UNMC, recognized for his academic excellence, research contributions and exceptional leadership. A recipient of numerous honors, including the APhA National Tom Temple USP Pharmacy Scholarship and UNMC Student Leader Scholarship, Buss has led initiatives in student governance, healthcare access and organizational management. He aspires to advance healthcare systems through a combination of clinical expertise, research and strategic leadership, pursuing a career focused on improving patient outcomes and healthcare delivery.
The Tecumseh native graduated from UNK in 2024 with a bachelor’s degree in applied health sciences. He was part of the Kearney Health Opportunities Program, Thompson Scholars Learning Community, Delta Tau Delta fraternity, Interfraternity Council, Mortar Board, Order of Omega, Kearney Skills for Success and UNK Men’s Project. A recipient of the UNK Alumni Association’s Outstanding Senior Award, Buss also served as a chemistry and biology tutor on campus and worked as a pharmacy technician.
Since 1941, the Ruth Weimer Mount Fellowship program has awarded more than $1.5 million to 600-plus students to support graduate study.
