UNK has a new approach to the fall requests for community and coalition giving by observing a focused week of attention to our community service and support.
During the first UNK Gives Week, community and statewide organizations are encouraged to educate and inspire University of Nebraska at Kearney staff, faculty and students to give their “time, talents and treasure” to help others, while raising the profile of UNK community impact.
Oct. 14-18 is designated for this focused week, with opportunity throughout for campaign-like attention through social media, and small events and activities at the Nebraskan Student Union that will create an atmosphere for service-learning, authorized payroll-contribution pledges, and donation drives for cash, food, medicine, clothing or articles of need to the community.
Any organization for student, community or campus involvement or service is welcome to participate in the week, provided they have student/staff/faculty sponsorship. The Nebraskan Student Union will be the location for activities to share information and collect contributions, and organizations are encouraged to use social media to promote their activities by sharing photos, dates and times, and stories about their organization’s impact. Groups or individuals will organize their drives and be accepting the donations directly – UNK will not be accepting donations on these organization’s behalf.
The NU Foundation plans the launch of its employee-giving campaign to coincide with the week, and websites (linked below) have been developed for the Foundation drive and for UNK employee contributions to Community Services Fund, United Way of the Kearney Area, and Combined Health Agencies Drive.
Fund-raising or service organizations seeking involvement during Oct. 14-18 UNK Gives Week can secure their date/time for a presence in the Union by calling the Nebraskan Union office at 308-865-8523. Contact Kelly Bartling via email at bartlingkh@unk.edu for other questions.
The focused week is intended to help organize and streamline the wide array of service actions that occur throughout the year by increasing the attention and the social nature of giving – and does not prohibit other appropriately sponsored projects during other times of the year.
