UNK closing Saturday-Sunday due to blizzard forecast; NCAA wrestling still on

KEARNEY – The University of Nebraska at Kearney will close Saturday and Sunday due to severe winter weather forecasted for Kearney and central Nebraska.

Campus will close at noon Saturday and reopen at regular hours Monday morning. The forecast for snow and ice, combined with wind to bring blizzard-like conditions, prompted the decision by UNK officials.

The NCAA Super Six Regional Wrestling Championships hosted Saturday by UNK remains scheduled as planned. Doors open for fans at 9 a.m. and wrestling begins at 10 a.m. Finals are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. at the Health and Sports Center. The 10 participating teams and more than 100 student-athletes competing have already arrived in Kearney. Only parking lot east of Health and Sports Center (lot 10) will be maintained.

UNK Theatre’s Saturday production of “The Ghost Sonata” is canceled. However, Sunday’s 7:30 p.m. performance will be staged at Miriam Drake Theatre. A UNK Choirs concert scheduled for Sunday has been postponed.

Calvin T. Ryan Library will not open Saturday and Sunday, and the Wellness Center will close at noon Saturday. Both will reopen Monday morning. Students will be served by UNK Dining Services.
