What: Community Action Poverty Simulation (CAPS)
About the Event: Could you survive a month in poverty? Social work students at the University of Nebraska at Kearney are dedicated to improving the lives of those living in poverty as well as other marginalized populations. … This simulation will shed light on situations of families living in poverty, decisions they have to make and the fears and frustrations they feel. … Participants will be given the opportunity to identify real-life challenges such as feeding your family, finding a job, and avoiding homelessness – all with a limited income. … The experience is divided into four 15-minute sessions, each representing one week in the life of someone living in poverty. As a participant you must provide for your family, maintain your home, and learn to navigate the system.
