University of Nebraska at Kearney student Morgan Kristensen was crowned Ak-Sar-Ben queen at Saturday’s Ak-Sar-Ben Coronation and Scholarship Ball.

A political science major from Minden, Kristensen was recognized at the annual Omaha gala that celebrates community leaders, philanthropy and education. The event was hosted at CenturyLink Center Omaha.

Kristensen is the daughter of UNK Chancellor Doug Kristensen. She is involved in a number of organizations at UNK, including the Alpha Phi sorority. She spends time fundraising for women’s health issues and plans to attend law school after graduation from UNK and eventually practice health care law.

Kristensen’s one-year reign as Ak-Sar-Ben queen will include work to promote Ak-Sar-Ben’s expanding scholarship program.

Along with the 50 four-year college scholarships the foundation has historically given each year, Ak-Sar-Ben plans an additional 500 to 1,000 two-year annual scholarships to focus on career training.
