POET BRANDON THORNTON SET TO PRESENT TUESDAY, FEB. 5, AT UNK

Brandon Thornton, a National Spoken Word Artist and poet, will be presenting “Sankofa: Learning From the Past, Giving to the Future” at the University of Nebraska at Kearney on Tuesday, Feb. 5.

Thornton’s presentation, which is free and open to the public, will take place in the food court of the Nebraskan Student Union at 7 p.m.

“The event, which is sponsored by the Black Student Association and the UNK Office of Multicultural Affairs, is a truly dynamic poetry presentation by Brandon Thornton,” said Juan Guzman, director of the Office of Multicultural Affairs. “His uniquely diverse approach to performing engages the entire audience to think, laugh and even cry.”

According to Guzman, Thornton’s work focuses on educating and inspiring. In the past two years, Thornton has performed at more than 100 colleges from Washington, D.C., to Kansas and Michigan. He recently released his fourth CD titled “Life After Poetry,” which was praised by reviewers for its creativity and stylistic approach.
