KEARNEY – An art exhibition by Craig Roper of Lincoln is on display from Aug. 19 to Sept. 27 in the Walker Art Gallery at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

Titled “True West,” the exhibition aims to represent the Western landscape through a nontraditional approach.

“For the most part, the works that I’ll be installing are raw, crudely executed, minimal, and for me, a post mid-life affirmation of my life experiences, beliefs and point-of-view,” said Roper, a Lincoln artist.

Pieces in the show feature mixed media, including text, photographs, paint, juxtaposition, humor and gravitas, bullet holes and shotgun blasts. All of the pieces are recent works from the past two or three years.

On Sept. 19, Roper returns to campus for an informal artist talk in the Walker Art Gallery. During this time, any questions for the artist can be answered as he goes into detail about the making of his work.

The gallery is open on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
