Kearney, Neb., April 8, 2013 – The 9th annual Kent Estes Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled for April 20 at Kearney Country Club.
The format for the golf tournament will be a scramble with a two-putt max on every hole. The entry fee for the tournament is $80 per person or $320 per team, and lunch will be provided. The tournament is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
All proceeds will go to the Kent Estes Memorial Fund. The Estes family awards three annual scholarships — one to a student athlete, one to a student in the counseling and school psychology department and one to an active member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
Kent Estes began teaching in 1975 at Kearney State College, which later became University of Nebraska at Kearney. He served as chair for the counseling and school psychology department for more than 20 years. Estes battled leukemia throughout the later part of his life but he maintained a positive outlook, living by the motto, “I know I’m sick, but do I have to act like it?”
UNK’s chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha has hosted an annual golf tournament in his memory since 2005, with all of the proceeds going to the Kent Estes Memorial Fund.
Any questions about the tournament can be directed via email to Michael Hanrahan at hanrahanmp@lopers.unk.edu.
