Step Afrika! brings high-energy percussive dance to UNK

Professional dance company Step Afrika! performed percussive dance moves, called stepping, Tuesday night at UNK’s student union.

The presentation included audience participation, and students had the opportunity to learn a few steps.

Stepping is a percussive dance genre cultivated by African American fraternities and sororities and celebrated by thousands. Since its inception in 1994, Step Afrika’s mission has been to preserve, expand and share the history of this highly energetic dance. Its members accomplish this through performance in theaters and communities along with award-winning arts education programs for more than 50,000 people annually.

Loper Programming and Activities Council (LPAC) and Intercultural Engagement and Leadership (IEL) sponsored the event.
