A senior at the University of Nebraska at Kearney was recently featured in the December issue of Industrial Distribution magazine, the flagship publication for the industrial distribution field.
UNK industrial distribution major Melissa Huffman from Axtell was featured in the magazine’s “Next Generation” section. The magazine piece outlined her career goals, as well as her experiences at UNK.
Huffman said exposure from the feature has already had an affect on her job prospects after graduation.
“Being in Industrial Distribution magazine was great exposure,” she said. “I have already had companies call and congratulate me, as well as ask for more information about me and our program.”
Scott Jochum, a lecturer in the industrial technology department, said that Huffman earned the national exposure with her hard work and commitment. She was nominated for submission to the magazine by a faculty member within the industrial technology department.
“Melissa has done so much for our program since she started as a freshman,” Jochum said. “This kind of exposure will demonstrate to a national audience the quality student she is, as well as the quality employee she will be.”
Jochum said Huffman’s feature in the magazine would also benefit the industrial technology department, as well as the university.
“It’s good to let everybody in the industry know that we’re still here, and that the program is still going strong,” he said. “New companies have actually come to our program career fairs as a result of the student column in the magazine.”
In the column, Huffman said she hopes to work in a sales position within a progressive company.
She said the industrial technology department has played a key role in preparing her for her career after graduation.
“The industrial technology department has provided me with an excellent education,” Huffman said. “And, with the hard work of the faculty, students have many opportunities in the industry.”
