More than 30 Omaha-area high school counselors will be recognized at an Omaha Area Counselor Appreciation Breakfast Monday (Nov. 14) morning, according to Dusty Newton, University of Nebraska at Kearney director of Admissions.
“We want to express our appreciation for all they do with high school students for post-secondary planning,” he said. “They do an exceptional job of keeping informed about what is available at UNK.”
The Omaha Area Counselor Appreciation Breakfast will take place at Wheatfields Restaurant, One Pacific Place, S. 103rd. St. Coffee will be served beginning at 7:30 a.m., and breakfast, beginning at 8 a.m. The recognition program is set for 8:30 a.m.
UNK Chancellor Doug Kristensen and other top administrators will be in Omaha Sunday and Monday, Nov. 13-14, to meet with the counselors as well as area high school students and UNK alumni.
After the breakfast, Chancellor Kristensen and others will visit metro area schools. At 9:30 a.m., Chancellor Kristensen will visit social science classes at Creighton Prep High School taught by UNK alumni Sarah Roth and Nick Svehla. At 11 a.m., the chancellor will visit Papillion-LaVista High School, 420 East Centennial Road.
A second group, comprised of UNK deans and other administrators, will visit Burke High School, 12200 Burke Blvd., at 9:30 a.m., and at 11 a.m., the group will visit Gretna High School, 11335 South 204th St. Gretna students are attending a new high school this fall.
“We get many students from Gretna High School, including this year’s Loper football starting quarterback Marcus Goldenstein,” Newton said.
On Sunday, Nov. 13, there will be a metro-area reception at the Forte Banquet and Conference Center, 1502 Cuming Street, from 3:30-5:30 p.m., followed by a UNK Alumni Reception from 5-6:30 p.m.
