Bob Whitehouse to deliver commencement address Friday to 235 UNK grads

KEARNEY – University of Nebraska at Kearney Chancellor Doug Kristensen will confer degrees to 235 candidates at summer commencement Friday (July 28) in the university’s Health and Sports Center.

Exercises begin 10 a.m. Commencement speaker will be University of Nebraska Board of Regents chairman Bob Whitehouse, co-coordinator of the Omaha Public Schools Middle School Learning Center Initiative.

Whitehouse was elected to the University of Nebraska Board of Regents in 2006, was re-elected in 2012 and is currently serving his second term as Board Chairman. He received his baccalaureate degree from Kearney State College, and his Master of Science and educational specialist degrees from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Whitehouse has served as a teacher, coach, principal and educational consultant in Omaha Public Schools and as an adjunct professor at UNO.

Amber Kosmicki of Kearney, class of 2017, will sing the national anthem.

Doors to Health and Sports Center will open at 8:30 a.m. Lineup for graduates begins at 9 a.m. in Cushing Coliseum, and procession begins at 9:45 a.m. Parking in the west lots is encouraged. Visitors with handicap parking permits can park east of the Health and Sports Center. Family members transporting a handicapped person will have access to drop off the person on the east side of the complex, but will need to move their vehicle to another lot.

Visitors with wheelchairs can sit in the corner seating sections on the concourse or use the elevator in the northeast corner of the building to sit in the designated section on the arena floor. Ask a student ambassador or host for assistance in finding seating.
