KEARNEY – University Theatre at Kearney will present a dance performance titled “(Dis) Connected” at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the Studio Theatre on the University of Nebraska at Kearney campus.
Six original works will be presented in the contemporary modern dance genre, including four new pieces choreographed by UNK Dance Director Dayna DeFilippis.
Two guest artist are also featured, including choreographer Ariella Brown of Tacoma, Wash., and photographer and architect Todd Allan Brown of Hastings.
Brown conceived and directed a film “Then/Here” featuring members of the UNK Dance Ensemble. The film will be presented with live dance at the concert.
“Being (Dis) Connected: A Documentary” will open the performance. The film was compiled by students of the JMC 250 Video Production Foundations course, offered in the Department of Communication, and features members of the UNK Dance Ensemble.
General admission tickets are $10 for adults, $5 age 18 and younger, and free for UNK students.

Costume design for the performance was done by UNK Costume Coordinator Sara Ice, and light design features the work of student designer Carlie Casas of Chicago.
Four new pieces by DeFilippis that will be performed include:
“Selfie” – Explores the impact social media has on one’s self-image and features an original music composition by UNK student Kory Reeder.
“Gone Fishing” – Centers on the idea of overstimulation within social media and features an original music composition by UNK student Tyler Hileman.
“Biology of Communication” – Focuses on the physical interaction between two dancers and how one dancer affects the other. This piece features original compositions of UNK Assistant Professor of Music and Performing Arts Anthony Donofrio.
“Let’s Chat” – Investigates friendship and how we stay connected to others despite long distance through technology. This piece features an original sound design by UNK Sound Production Coordinator Anna Alex.
