KEARNEY – The University of Nebraska at Kearney has named Annette Moser as the new director of the UNK Honors Program, effective June 1.
A longtime faculty member and chair of the Department of Chemistry, Moser brings nearly two decades of teaching, research and student mentorship experience to the role. She joined the UNK faculty in 2006 and has served as professor of chemistry since 2017.
The UNK Honors Program currently serves nearly 400 students and is designed for academically motivated students seeking opportunities to challenge themselves beyond the traditional classroom experience. Through undergraduate research, leadership development, community engagement and personalized academic pathways, the program encourages students to explore their interests while working closely with faculty mentors and alumni professionals.
Honors students benefit from hands-on learning experiences, study abroad and exchange opportunities, specialized coursework and additional academic privileges that support intellectual curiosity, personal growth and career preparation.
“Dr. Moser is an outstanding educator, researcher and mentor who has demonstrated a deep commitment to student success throughout her career,” said Julie Shaffer, senior vice chancellor for academic affairs. “Her passion for undergraduate research, academic excellence and individualized student support makes her an excellent fit to lead the Honors Program as we continue creating meaningful opportunities for high-ability students to grow and succeed.”
Moser earned her bachelor’s degree in chemistry from UNK in 2000 before completing a doctorate in analytical chemistry at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2006. Her research focus is analytical chemistry, and she teaches a variety of courses at UNK, including general chemistry, analytical chemistry and instrumental analysis.
During her time at UNK, Moser has served in multiple faculty roles within the Department of Chemistry, including assistant professor, associate professor and professor. In addition to leading the department, she has worked closely with undergraduate students through research, mentorship and academic advising.
“I am deeply honored to serve as the next Honors Program director and excited to build upon its strong tradition of excellence while working alongside our exceptional students, faculty and staff,” Moser said. “I look forward to cultivating a community defined by intellectual curiosity, meaningful leadership and engaged learning.”
