Julie Stall receives KUDOS award from University of Nebraska Board of Regents

Julie Stall, continuing resources associate at Calvin T. Ryan Library, received the University of Nebraska Board of Regents KUDOS award during Friday’s meeting.

KUDOS awards recognize university staff for their professional expertise, service and “superior dedication” to UNK and the University of Nebraska. It is the university’s top staff award.

Stall earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Kearney State College in 1983, becoming the first in her family to graduate from college. She started working at Calvin T. Ryan Library as a student before transitioning to full-time employment in 1984.

Over the past four decades, she’s witnessed significant changes in library services, from the era of card catalogs to today’s digital age. She’s served under multiple library administrations and adapted to various reorganizations throughout her career.

“I feel fortunate that opportunities aligned with my strengths,” Stall said. “I particularly enjoyed the tasks of processing materials and helping students find what they needed.”

Stall has worked continuously in the library’s serials and continuing resources office, shepherding the collection through all the transitions of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Her role has changed significantly over the years, from primarily print management-based to one that is focused almost entirely on digital resource management.

She’s the right kind of perfectionist, working closely with her supervisor and the business office to certify issues around bill payment and licensing, government document protocols and data management. She is always ready to lend a hand to her colleagues, jumping in to help whenever challenges arise.

“Julie is a joy to work with. Her dedication to and care for the UNK students and community is shown in her organization and attention to detail,” said David Arredondo, collection services librarian. “She actively seeks to learn new skills and increase her proficiency in her work, without expecting recognition. Julie has been a steadfast presence here in the library. She helps all of us be better at our work – me most of all!”

Along with the Board of Regents honor, Stall has received the UNK employee achievement and teamwork awards in recognition of her contributions to campus.
