Saturday marked the annual “Here Come the Lopers!” event, a tradition at the University of Nebraska at Kearney where student-athletes and coaches take to the streets to engage with the community.
Participants from various athletic teams walked Kearney business districts, stopping to introduce themselves, hand out UNK Athletics posters, and snap pictures with employees, owners and fans.
Community members who couldn’t make it to the event in person could follow the festivities via UNK Athletics social media channels, where the hashtag #HereComeTheLopers was trending throughout the day.
The event is not only a kickoff to the fall sports season but also a vital part of UNK’s community engagement strategy, strengthening the bond between the university and Kearney residents.
