PHOTOS: UNK community gets in the holiday spirit with gingerbread house competition

Twenty-eight student and faculty teams participated in Loper Programming and Activities Council’s annual gingerbread house competition Thursday night at the Nebraskan Student Union.

Four UNK faculty and staff members judged the creations on quality, originality/creativity and overall effect. Teams were required to make every part of their structures edible and they could not be constructed outside the 30-minute competition time. LPAC provided frosting and graham crackers. Participants brought their own embellishments.

Leonardo Martinez, Jewels Zeiler, Alicia Colima, Angel Perez, Joseph Aguilar Tomas and Josue Gomez Gutierrez, representing Kearney Bound, won first place and earned $150.

Other winners were:
2nd place and $100 – “Gingerbread Winner” comprised of Brookly Hostetler, Grace McDonald, Faith McDonald, Jennica Sikes and Carissa Kelley
3rd place and $50 – “The Welches” comprised of Macy and Blake Welch
