Nebraskats, jazz groups taking shows to Reno festival

KEARNEY –Twenty-six student musicians will represent the University of Nebraska at Kearney at the prestigious Reno Jazz Festival.

The Nebraskats show choir, UNK Jazz Combo and UNK Jazz/Rock Ensemble will perform Friday (April 28) at the University of Nevada, Reno.

In its 55th year, the Reno Jazz Festival includes more than 9,000 performers, 300 schools groups and 50 clinicians. It is one of the most highly-regarded jazz festivals in the world. This marks the first year UNK has attended.

In preparation for the trip, the UNK groups will perform Wednesday (April 26) at 8 a.m. at Lexington High School and 11:15 a.m. at Gothenburg High School. UNK also will give a concert at 2:30 p.m. Thursday (April 27) at Wells High School in Wells, Nev.

The Nebraskats are directed by Eileen Jahn. The Jazz/Rock Ensemble and Jazz Combo groups are directed by Tim Farrell.
