KEARNEY – University of Nebraska at Kearney students, faculty, staff and the community will run for “something.”

The JJ 5K: Run for Something encourages participants to run for their favorite charity, cause or person. Race registration begins at 5 p.m. and the race begins at 6 p.m. Aug. 28 at Cope Fountain on campus. The race route ends at Cottonmill Park.

Participants are encouraged to dress up to raise awareness for their cause.

“We encourage people to wear T-shirts to show support for their favorite cause, charity or even someone special,” said Brette Ensz, assistant director of the First Year Program. “This race allows you to promote something you care about.”

The cost is $5, which will be donated to the United Way. Participants receive a Jimmy John’s sandwich after the race.

Get Ready to Give Back, an event featuring service organizations from the community, will be at the finish line.

After the race, participants can also stay at Cottonmill for kayaking, paddle boarding, disc golf and swimming, sponsored by Outdoor Adventures and Intramural Sports and Campus Recreation

The race is sponsored by the UNK First Year Program and UNK Family Studies Department.
