KEARNEY – The University of Nebraska at Kearney’s Destination Downtown has partnered with the 24th Street Night Market.

Destination Downtown brings hundreds of UNK students to Downtown Kearney: The Bricks. This year’s event is from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Aug. 25.

Destination-Downtown-4-w“Partnering with the 24th Street Night Market will allow us to have more businesses and vendors available. It helps us to blend campus and the community, and it will add another element of fun,” said Miranda Cherry, Blue and Gold Welcome Week Coordinator.

Area businesses can participate in Destination Downtown by being open during the event, having a table or offering food, discounts, prizes or special events.

Destination Downtown, which is open to students and the public, will feature DJs, prizes, free food, student discounts at businesses, an eating contest and other activities.

Destination Downtown is part of Blue and Gold Welcome Week, a two-week event designed to help students become familiar with the UNK campus and Kearney community, as well as give the public a chance to interact with students, faculty and alumni. Classes begin at UNK on Aug. 22.

Businesses can register for Destination Downtown by going to http://www.unk.edu/student_affairs/firstyear/destination-downtown.php

Shuttles from campus to downtown will begin at 7 p.m. Pick up locations will be at the College of Education parking lot and the east side of the Nebraskan Student Union.

Destination Downtown is sponsored by the First Year Program.
