KEARNEY – The Xi Phi chapter of Mortar Board at the University of Nebraska Kearney is collecting books that will be donated to area children and families in need.
In partnering with UNK Athletics, Mortar Board is collecting books at Thursday’s Loper women’s and men’s basketball games against Southwest Baptist, which begin at 5:30 p.m. at the UNK Health and Sports Center.
Fans are asked to donate books for all ages as part of the Reading is Leading event. All fans who donate will be entered into a drawing to win a variety of prizes.
“As a senior honor society, one of Mortar Board’s top priorities is academics. There’s no better way to promote that than to involve the community and host a book drive,” said Mortar Board member JP Lempke.
Mortar Board is a national honor society that recognizes college seniors for their achievements in scholarship, leadership and service.
