KEARNEY – The family of Carrie Prososki has been selected as the University of Nebraska at Kearney Family of the Year for 2014.
According to Heather Wolf, assistant director for student activities, UNK recognizes an outstanding family each year. “We understand and appreciate the support given to our students by their families. Getting an undergraduate degree is not easy, and to have a supportive family by your side can make all the difference.”
The family will be featured in the UNK Homecoming Parade Saturday morning and introduced during halftime of the Homecoming football game. The award is given based on what the student most admires about his/her family, and how family members have encouraged the student’s education and had an impact on the student’s academic and personal life.
A junior elementary and special education major, Prososki has a 3.8 grade point average. In addition, she is co-captain of the UNK Cheer Squad and president of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority.
She is the daughter of Bob and Karen Prososki of Kearney. Carrie’s younger sister, Carlie, is a freshman at UNK. Carrie’s youngest sister, Allie, is a senior at Kearney Catholic High School and has committed to playing basketball at UNK starting in the fall of 2015.
Carrie’s older brothers, Drew and Chris, graduated from UNK.
When nominating her family, Carrie wrote, “My parents have always pushed me to do my best in school and have encouraged me to get involved on campus. They come to support me when I cheer and at my sorority events.”
On Family Day, which is the weekend of Homecoming Sept. 19-21, students are encouraged to bring their families to campus.

The Prososki Family is a wonderful choice for Loper Family of the Year! Carrie’s parents are very supportive and caring. Their children have followed in their footsteps. Having taught all their children in their younger days, I know what an amazing family they are.
