Winners in 23rd annual handwriting contest announced

Kearney, Neb., May 2, 2013 – Nine winners were selected in the University of Nebraska at Kearney’s 23rd annual Nebraska Handwriting Contest, convened by the Department of Teacher Education.

The contest was open to all Nebraska residents to promote legible handwriting as an effective means of communication. Prizes are awarded in four categories: ages 12 and under, ages 13-16, ages 17-49, and ages 50 and over. Conducted by the UNK’s Department of Teacher Education, the contest is an activity endorsed and supported by the Nebraska Department of Education and the Nebraska State Education Association with prizes sponsored by the Sequel Bookstore of Kearney.

The Nebraska Handwriting Contest was created in 1991 by Tom Hutson of Red Cloud in memory of his mother Eva. Winners for 2013 are:

Age 12 and Under

Anna Liston, Second Place, York

Ages 13 – 16

Morgan Nibbe, First Place, Red Cloud

Ages 17 – 49
