As a part of Native American History Month, the Student Kouncil of Intertribal Nations (SKINS) at the University of Nebraska at Kearney will present “The Truth About Thanksgiving” on Tuesday, Nov. 13.
According to Ellie Heath of Rushville, president of SKINS, the program will take place in the Nester Hall University View at 5:30 p.m. The presentation is free and open to the public.
“SKINS has partnered with resident assistants in Nester Hall and have invited Kurt Siedschlaw, UNK professor of criminal justice and social work, as our guest speaker,” Heath said.
“The real Thanksgiving story is not as simple as we all learned in grade school,” Heath said. “Siedschlaw will bring some light to what actually happened when the pilgrims first sailed to America.”
This event is jointly sponsored by SKINS, the Office of Multicultural Affairs, Division of Student Affairs and Community Assembly Night.
“With all the events that we have planned for the month of November and all year long, we hope to teach our community about the Native American culture and bring more understanding to the events of our history,” Heath said.
