Dr. David Bauer

“In Remembrance, Lest We Forget” is the theme for the choral concert to be held on Sunday, Feb. 26, at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
The performance, under the direction of Dr. David Bauer, UNK director of choruses, will begin at 3 p.m. in the UNK Fine Arts Recital Hall and will feature a collection of music written during the Holocaust.
The University Men’s Choir will open the concert with “Three Songs from the Ghetto” by Gershon Kingsley, which includes “The Last Butterfly,” “Lullaby At Ponar” and “It Burns.” The Vocal Collegium will perform “Is Not a Flower a Mystery?” by Donald McCullough and “Even When God is Silent” by Michael Horvit.
The University Women’s Choir will perform three pieces, including “I Never Saw Another Butterfly” by Charles Davidson, which was written to the 15,000 children who passed through Theresienstadt on their way to Auschwitz, “When I Am Silent” by Joan Varner and “Ani Ma’Amin” by Paul Gladwell and Sean Ivory, a Hebrew affirmation of faith sung by many as they entered the gas chambers.
The UNK Choraleers, who are chosen through competitive auditions, will conclude the concert with performances of “Tsen Brider” and “Zol Shoyn Kumen Di Ge’Uleh,” both by Joshua Jacobson; “Holocaust Cantata” by Donald McCullough, featuring Dr. Noah Rogoff, UNK assistant professor of music and performing arts, on the cello; and “Inscription of Hope” by Z. Randall Stroope.
