STUDENT ORIENTATION TEAM LEADERS FOR SUMMER ADVISING AND ENROLLMENT ANNOUNCED AT UNK

The Summer Advising and Enrollment (SAE) program at the University of Nebraska at Kearney has announced the names of eight new student orientation team leaders for 2011.

“These students have been selected via a rigorous application and interview process,” said Alisha Hanshaw, UNK senior assistant director of Undergraduate Recruitment and Admissions. “These students will be serving as leaders not only at Summer Advising and Enrollment, but also at Fall Orientation.”

UNK Summer Advising and Enrollment (SAE) is an opportunity for incoming freshmen to meet faculty, staff and current students, as well as register for fall classes. Students admitted to UNK will receive a postcard telling them the process for signing up for Summer Advising and Enrollment. Summer Advising and Enrollment dates are as follows: May 16-18, May 23-26, June 1-3, June 6-9, June 13-14 and June 27-30.

The following UNK students will serve as student orientation team leaders during the May and June enrollment dates.

Lana Koziol of Cedar Rapids is majoring in recreation management. She is a member of the UNK Honors Program, Phi Eta Sigma honor society, Phi Beta Lambda honor society, Loper Liaisons, Loper Legion and the Travel and Tourism Club. In addition, Koziol is a Deans’ List student, Student Government campaign agent, intramural sports supervisor and an office assistant in the UNK Office of Admissions.

Katie Swett of Ericson is majoring in athletic training. She is a student Admissions Diplomat and secretary of the Thompson Scholar Learning Community. She has been involved in UNK intramural sports and the Phi Eta Sigma national honor society. Swett is also a Deans’ List student.

Jordan Gonzales, a political science major from Morrill, is Mortar Board president, Student Body president and Regent, a Chancellor’s Ambassador, the Student Senate speaker of the house and an Admissions Diplomat. Gonzales is also a member of the Student Envoys and recently served as president of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Gonzales is a former Summer Advising and Enrollment student leader.

Ellen Thomas of Omaha is majoring in elementary education. She is a member of the UNK women’s soccer team, Gamma Phi Beta sorority, Loper Liaisons and Mantor Hall Council. Thomas has also been a volunteer for Blue and Gold Welcome Week, as well as a participant in UNK intramural sports.

Matthew Wecker, a pre-nursing major from O’Neill, is president of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, a UNK student Diplomat and member of Loper Liaisons. He is also a member of the UNK Astronomy Club, UNK Emergency Operations Team and UNK Fees Committee.

Andi Diediker, a middle school education major from Wayne, is president of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Diediker is also a member of the UNK Student Senate and Loper Liaisons, and participates in UNK intramural sports.

Allison Palmer of Council Bluffs, Iowa, is a biology/pre-med major. She is the president of Gamma Phi Beta sorority, and a member of Loper Liaisons and the UNK Sapphires dance team. Palmer is a former Summer Advising and Enrollment student leader.

Cam Deter, an industrial distribution major from Red Oak, Iowa, is a student senator and student Admissions Diplomat. He is also a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity, Loper Legions and Loper Liaisons. Deter is a member of the College of Business and Technology Student Advisory Committee and he is the recruitment chair for the Industrial Distribution Organization Leadership Team. Deter is a former Summer Advising and Enrollment student leader.
