NEWS ADVISORY: Industrial Distribution Fall Career Fair Wednesday-Friday (Oct. 6-8) at UNK

Richard A. Meznarich
Ph.D., Department of Industrial Technology Coordinator – Industrial Distribution Program

There are 88 corporate recruiters coming to campus, approximately 25 percent of whom are alumni of the ID program, representing 23 companies, from 15 states across the nation. They come to provide internships and full-time employment to UNK Industrial Distribution students. The entire ID Career Event schedule can be seen at the following link:  http://www.unkid.org/CareerEvent/career_event.html .

“A fun fact in my mind is that 16 of the 23 companies will have at least one UNK ID Alumnus as one of the representatives for their company!” –Brenda Jochum, internship director for the UNK Department of Industrial Technology

“The unemployment rate for 2009 UNK ID graduates was 0% compared to national unemployment rate average of near 10 percent.  Projected unemployment results for 2010 UNK ID graduates to mirror 2009 results. How is this possible? It appears that UNK’s ID program has a secret formula that economic experts have yet to discover.”  –Gregory Benson, UNK industrial technology lecturer.

NOTE TO MEDIA: Perhaps the best time to be at the career fair on Thursday, Oct. 7, would be 10 – 10:45 a.m. in the Ponderosa Room, according to Brenda Jochum, internship director for the UNK Department of Industrial Technology. (Her contact information is below.)  This will be the busiest time as juniors and seniors will be on their second hour of the fair and underclassmen will be starting to arrive.  If you would prefer to cover a “different” type of activity as part of the 2 1/2 day event, the group will be at the Archway on Wednesday, Oct. 6 for a reception and dinner (6 – 9 p.m.) honoring UNK seniors and providing another networking opportunity for them and the 80 company representatives attending.

Please note the eight ID Program Partners attending, shown below in bold.  Each contribute a minimum of $10,000 annually to support the ID Program on campus. The department is working hard to have 10 ID Program Partners by 2011. The companies attending this event include:
