MULTICULTURAL SCHOLARS AND LEADERS DAY HOSTS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS (WEDNESDAY, OCT. 29) AT THE NEBRAKSAN STUDENT UNION

UNK– The Office of Multicultural Affairs at the University of Nebraska at Kearney expects to host approximately 200 of the top multicultural students from more than 65 Nebraska high schools at the upcoming Multicultural Scholars and Leaders Day conference. 

The conference will be held at the UNK Nebraskan Student Union on Wednesday, Oct. 29, from 10 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Registration and check-in begins at 9 a.m. 

There are already 135 multicultural high school juniors and seniors registered for the conference, including a group of sophomores and juniors from the Lexington High School Kearney Bound program. “The Multicultural Scholars and Leaders Day conference is a recruiting tool sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Office of Undergraduate Recruitment and Admissions,” said Juan Guzman, director of the Office of Multicultural Affairs.

The conference will include presentations from the deans of each university college and the UNMC College of Nursing; Dr. Gail Zeller, dean of Student Life; Dusty Newton, director of Undergraduate Recruitment; Dr. Gary Davis, director of the Honors Program; Mary Sommers, director of Financial Aid; Mary Daake, director of Academic Advising; and Peg Abels of Health Sciences Program. 

Participants will have the opportunity to learn more about what each college offers during college break-out sessions. Scholarship information and presentations about the Office of Multicultural Affairs student organizations will be offered during the lunch hour. Group tours of the campus with UNK student tour guides will be available after lunch.

9 – 10 a.m. – Check-in & Registration, Organization Fair (Organization Tables) 
10– 11 a.m. – Welcome and Deans Information
11:05 a.m. – Noon – College Break-out Sessions 
Noon – 2 p.m. – Lunch, Scholars Information and OMA Organizations Presentation 
2:05 – 3 p.m. – Campus Tours  
3:05 – 3:15 p.m. – Conclusion and Departure
