As Thousands Cheer

sketches by MOSS HART         music & lyrics by IRVING BERLIN

Nov. 28 – Dec. 1

Dec. 2
2 p.m.

Miriam Drake Theatre

Inspired by the newspaper headlines of the day, As Thousands Cheer was the Depression era version of Saturday Night Live or The Daily Show.  Moss Hart’s sharp, witty sketches complement Irving Berlin’s broad range of songs in a clever look at the daily news covering everything from tabloid affairs, photos of the rich and famous, and advice to the lovelorn, to comic strips and weather reports.  Considered a masterpiece of that specialized genre known as the topical revue, As Thousands Cheer inspired some of Hart’s best solo work as a comedy writer and afforded Berlin the opportunity to pen some of the greatest musical gems.
