The purpose of this series is to provide information that assist universities in creating and running their own alumni angel group. The workshops provide a comprehensive overview of university angel groups and deal with:

  • how to find alumni angel members
  • how to work with VCs and corporate strategic partners
  • how to work with the development office and other parts of the university
  • company due diligence
  • deal flow management
  • group administration
  • financing the group
  • the securities laws framework in which angel groups operate, and
  • legal risks and how to effectively deal with them.

Session 1: Introduction – Importance of Venture Industry, What are VCs, What are Angels, Differences

Session 2: Legal Framework – Accredited Investors, General Solicitation, Broker-Dealers/Finders, Investment Advisers, Secondary Markets/Re-sales

Session 3: Forming a University Angel Group – Group Structure, Member vs. Manager Managed, Finding Members, Budgets

Session 4: Operating a University Angel Group – Educating Angels & Entrepreneurs, Organizing Deal Flow, Performing Due Diligence, Working on Exits with VCs and Strategic Partners
