Swing, Latin and contemporary jazz are just a sampling of the music the University of Nebraska at Kearney Jazz/Rock Ensemble will perform in their fall concert Saturday, Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Recital Hall.
“The UNK Jazz Rock Ensemble brings together UNK students from Nebraska, Colorado, Iowa and Wyoming to play great music from the best big bands and big band writers in the nation,” said Dr. James Payne, ensemble director and a UNK professor of music. The concert is free and open to the public.
The ensemble will perform a wide range of musical styles, from the swing era to newer charts of the big bands of the present. The music will come from the libraries of the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, Glenn Miller, Count Basie, and Maynard Ferguson. Among the composers represented will be Randy Brecker, Astor Piazzolla, Ernie Watts and Les Hooper.
