UNK PROFESSOR APPOINTED TO NYSP LEGISLATIVE ACTION COMMITTEE

Nita Unruh, an assistant health and physical education professor at the University of Nebraska at Kearney has been appointed to the Legislative Action Committee for the National Youth Sports Program. This Legislative Action Committee builds relationships with local, state and federal officials. Her appointment will involve strategic planning of Dear Colleague Letter campaigns for the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate. She will also make annual visits to Washington D.C. for national workshops. She is the state coordinator for Nebraska and will train other coordinators in her state how to be proactive. She is one of seven members to serve a term of one to three years.

She has been a leader in her Kearney Nebraska community as she has spent five years coordinating National Youth Sports Program, a camp for students that meet certain economic guidelines. The day camp provides physical activities and opportunities to meet professionals from several fields. Every student receives a free physical and a hot lunch. She is proud to have 225 students from several neighboring communities attend the day camp for 25 days.
