Do you already have a bachelor of art or bachelor of science degree and want to move into the teaching field?
The University of Nebraska at Kearney will offer the federally funded project, Transition to Teaching Project, to accepted individuals. UNK will have a statewide Assessment Center whose director will assess applications and serve as field coordinator for the project.
Accepted applicants will receive assistance in development of an individual program plan, leading to regular teacher certification consistent with state requirements for initial preparation programs. An on-line sequence of three courses of six credit hours each, combined with school-based activities will be offered at UNK. Employment as a teacher and completion of requirements for teacher certification may take place concurrently in districts that have not been successful in hiring already qualified teachers.
According to Lucille Freeman, Teacher Education, professor, “Of highest priority are shortage subject areas and additional resources and incentives are available for persons who can accept employment in one of 27 identified high-need school districts.”
