Christine Cottam, a mezzo-soprano from Hastings, will present her senior recital Sunday, Nov. 4, at 3 p.m. in the University of Nebraska at Kearney Fine Arts Recital Hall.
Cottam, who is studying with Dr. Sharon Campbell at UNK, is a music major with an emphasis in voice. She will be accompanied by Todd Thalken of Kearney on piano. The recital is free and open to the public.
The first half of Cottam’s recital will feature classical pieces including“Che faro, senza Euridice? (Orfeos ed Eudice)” by Christoph W. Gluck; “L’heure exquise” by Lady D.P. Poldowski; “Au Jardin de Mon Pere” by Pauline Viardot; “Laue Sommernacht” by Alma Mahler; “Heart, We Well Forget Him” by Aaron Copland; and “Samir’a Aria (The Ghosts of Versailles)” by John Corigliano.
Of the classical pieces, four will be sung in three different languages. They include “Che faro, senza Euridice? (Orfeos ed Eudice)” in Italian; “L’heure exquise” and “Au Jardin de Mon Pere” in French; and “Laue Sommernacht” in German.
During the second half of the recital, Cottam will perform several pieces of modern music, including “Light in the Piazza” from the musical of the same name by Adam Guettel; “Johnny One Note” and “The Lady is a Tramp” from “Babes in Arms” by Richard Rodgers; and “Dreaming Wide Awake” and “Just One Step,” both from “Songs for a New World” by Jason Robert Brown.
There will be an intermission during the performance.
