The Criminal Justice Club of the University of Nebraska at Kearney will be traveling to the McCook Work Ethic Camp for juvenile and first time offenders on April 19. This is a new facility that uses non-traditional punishment in a minimum-security facility that teaches youth and first time offenders responsibility and marketable job skills.
The Work Ethics Camp is a controlled living environment that requires offenders to have a job and take some responsibility in their lives. If offenders choose not to abide by the standards they are sent to prison. “The facility has an emphasis on reforming the offender instead of strictly punishing them. Since prisons are becoming increasingly overpopulated, this seems to be an effective program,” said Eric VanZee, president of the Criminal Justice Club.
