KEARNEY – Alexi (Tice) Wellman has been selected as the 2023 UNK College of Business and Technology Distinguished Alumna Award recipient.
She will be honored at the 43rd annual Distinguished Alumni Awards luncheon, scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Sept. 29 in the Nebraskan Student Union Ponderosa Room. Tickets are $25 per person ($30 starting Sept. 18), $15 for children ages 12 and younger, and can be purchased until Sept. 21 at unkalumni.org/homecoming or by calling the UNK Alumni Association at 308-698-5271.
Wellman resides in Papillion and is the chief executive officer of Altaba Inc., an independent, closed-end management investment company. She was previously Altaba’s chief financial and accounting officer from 2017-22 before her appointment to CEO.
Wellman has held executive roles with Yahoo Inc. and Nebraska Book Company and was a partner at KPMG LLP. She also has held numerous board positions and is currently a director and chair of the audit committee of Werner Enterprises Inc. and ESS Inc. Additionally, she is a speaker, venture capital partner, angel investor and supporter of the Nebraska startup ecosystem.
“Alexi is a wonderful role model for our students; she’s smart, articulate and driven to succeed,” said Tim Jares, dean of the UNK College of Business and Technology. “Her career spans public and private accounting and C-suite leadership and she also is very involved as a volunteer and angel investor. Support from people like Alexi is making a huge difference in the development of new tech companies in Nebraska.”
Wellman volunteers her time working with underserved youth and with Abide Omaha to revitalize inner-city areas of Omaha. She’s also an assistant coach for the Bryan High School girls basketball team.
A Papillion native and Papillion La Vista High School graduate, Wellman earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an accounting minor from UNK in 1992. She’s a licensed certified public accountant.
