Songs from operetta arias to novelty pieces and contemporary music will be featured in a Senior Vocal Recital Saturday, April 17, at 7:30 p.m. in the University of Nebraska at Kearney Fine Arts Recital Hall.
Leah Skorupa, a senior from Columbus, will be singing works by Strauss, Gilbert & Sullivan, Irving Berlin, Gershwin, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Sheldon Harnick & Jerry Bock, Kander & Ebb, Bernstein, Sondheim and Andrew Lloyd Weber. The recital is free and open to the public.
Among the selections are songs from Die Fledermaus, The Pirates of Penzance, The Mikado, Crazy for You, Allegro, Carousel, Fiorello!, West Side Story, Candide, And the World Goes ‘Round, Whistle Down the Wind andCompany.
She has studied with Pina Mozzani, UNK assistant professor of music and performing arts, for five years and after graduation in May with a bachelor of fine arts in music theatre, she plans to work in professional theatre.
A member of Delta Omicron music honor society, Skorupa has served as treasurer. In addition, she has served as president and vice-president of Alpha Psi Omega theatre honor society.
She is the daughter of Frank and Peggy Skorupa.
