Violins and cellos will be among the featured string instruments during the String Project concert at the University of Nebraska at Kearney on Friday, April 29.
The concert, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Recital Hall. The Fine Arts Recital Hall is located in the UNK Fine Arts Building.
In all, there are 35 String Project members, and they are from area elementary, middle and high schools. During the concert, the members will perform in four groups: beginning class, second-year class, third-year class and the chamber group.
According to Dr. Noah Rogoff, UNK String Project director, students will perform music by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
The UNK String Project, which is one of only 32 National String Project Consortium (NSPC) sites in the nation, began in 2008. The purpose of the project is to develop more string musicians and educators. Currently, there is a shortage of string instrument players and educators, nationwide.
Currently, two UNK students assist with the UNK String Project. They include Jennifer Zumwalt ofLincoln, who is the assistant instructor, and Cindie Reneau of Oklahoma City, Okla., who is the class assistant.
