HONORS RECITAL AND CONVOCATION SET FOR SUNDAY, MAY 1, AT UNK

Ten University of Nebraska at Kearney Department of Music students have been selected to perform in the annual Honors Recital and Convocation on Sunday, May 1, according to Dr. James Cook, UNK professor of music.

“Honors Recital performers are talented students selected by their instructors on the basis of their musical skill and overall ability,” Dr. Cook said. “Each performer must be at least a sophomore and must have previously performed their work this semester.”

The students will perform beginning at 3 p.m. in the UNK Fine Arts Recital Hall. The recital is free and open to the public.

Students who will be performing in the recital are listed below, alphabetically by hometown:

Amherst– Christopher Gugel, a junior, will perform “Suite rapsodica” by Jindrich Feld on the alto saxophone. Gugel is a student of Dr. David Nabb, UNK professor of music.

McCook– Julie Gates, a sophomore, and Michelle Duffy, a sophomore from Kenesaw, will perform “Serenade No. 10, Op. 79” by Vincent Persichetti. Gates is a flute student of Franziska Nabb, UNK lecturer in music, and Michelle Duffy is a harp student of Mary Bircher, adjunct faculty member fromOmaha.

Dickens– Brooke Harris, a junior, will perform “Duo for Flute and Piano” by Aaron Copland. Harris is a student of Franziska Nabb, UNK lecturer in music.

Kearney– Katherine Ridder, a soprano, is a junior. She will perform “lIest doux, il est bon” by Jules Massenet. She will be accompanied on piano by Dr. Marilyn Musick, also of Kearney. Ridder is a student of Dr. Anne Foradori, UNK professor of music.

Ogallala– Lauren Rudolph, a mezzo-soprano, is a junior. She will perform “Cari luoghi ov’io passai” by Gaetano Donizetti. She will be accompanied on piano by Nancy Curry of Kearney. Rudolph is a student of Dr. Anne Foradori, UNK professor of music.

O’Neill–  Jordan Peterson, a junior, perform “Andante and Rondo Capriccioso, Op. 14” by Felix Mendelssohn on piano. Peterson is a student of Dr. Valerie Cisler, chair and professor of music.

Kansas

Goodland– Jillian Parker, a mezzo-soprano, is a senior. She will perform “I’m a stranger here myself” by Kurt Weill. She will be accompanied on piano by Todd Thalken of Kearney. Parker is a student of Dr. Sharon Campbell, assistant professor of music.

China

Jiangxi (Hubei) – Dan Yu, a junior, will perform “Sonata in D Major, D. 850” by Franz Schubert on piano. Yu is a student of Dr. Nathan Buckner, professor of music.

Colombia

Bogota – Gustavo Rodriguez Barrera, a junior, will perform “El testoment d’Amelia” by Miguel Llobet on guitar. Barrera is a student of Greg Sales of Kearney.
