Students, faculty and community members can now download the University of Nebraska at 
Kearney mobile app, available through the Apple App Store and Android Marketplace.
“UNK Mobile is awesome,” said Cameron Deter of Red Oak, Iowa, UNK Student Body president and University of Nebraska Regent. “It will serve as an amazing tool for connecting students to the various entities encompassed within the university. Additionally, it will give students the opportunity to connect to campus in a more convenient and effect manner.
“I am ecstatic about the possibilities to come and the continued development of similar programs,” Deter said.
The app, which is available via iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and Android devices, includes extensive information about UNK, including Blackboard, Calvin T. Library, campus maps, news, events, videos and emergency numbers.
“The Blackboard Learn module allows students and instructors to view announcements, participate in discussion boards, update blogs and journals, and check grades,” said Deb Schroeder, assistant vice chancellor of UNK Information Services.
“UNK has been working with Blackboard Inc. to develop the app, which is now available by searching UNK Mobile or University Nebraska Kearney in the Apple App Store or Android Marketplace,” Schroeder said.
“This was a project that moved on a very fast timetable, but we were able to pack a lot of features into this first version,” Schroeder said. “We are already thinking about things we can add when we do an update.”
“LoperMail is not available through the app at the moment,” said Thane Webb, UNK web services coordinator. “There may eventually be links added to the app, but not right now.”
“Adding a directory, possible links to a mobile MyBlue and an update to the map to make it more custom, rather than just GoogleMaps, are things being considered for the second phase,” Webb said.
