KEARNEY – Pancakes for supper?
A University of Nebraska at Kearney sorority thinks it’s perfectly ordinary and wants to fill your evening breakfast craving while raising money for a pair of organizations focused on building strong girls and teens.
Gamma Phi Beta will host its spring pancake feed from 5-9 p.m. Thursday at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds Extension Center in Kearney, 1400 E. 34th St.
Pancakes, sausage and eggs will be served by sorority members.
“In the past, this event has brought in around 500 attendees and generated ,000 in proceeds towards charity,” said Gamma Phi Beta’s Grace Magill.
Tickets are in advance and can be purchased from Gamma Phi Beta members or at a table set up inside the Nebraskan Student Union or Health and Sports Center. Tickets are also available for at the event. Raffle tickets for numerous prizes also will be sold.
Funds from the pancake feed will benefit Girls on the Run, a youth mentorship program that encourages girls to stay active, healthy and positive. The event also raises funds for Kearney-based McKenna’s Rae of Hope Foundation, whose mission is to prevent teen suicide by fostering awareness, resilience and social change.
“Gamma Phi Beta women at UNK believe each of these organizations’ causes are in line with Gamma Phi Beta’s philanthropic mission of building strong girls,” said Magill.
