Fans of Charles Dickens and Victorian literature will get a holiday treat at Victorian teas set for Dec. 7 and 12 at the University of Nebraska at Kearney historic Frank House.

The first event, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 7, is a holiday tea with “The Victorian Literary Characters.” The activity is sponsored by UNK Victorian literature classes.

Dressed as famous characters from Victorian literature, the students will give presentations, and the audience will guess what characters they are impersonating, with prizes awarded to the best guesser. Audience members are also encouraged to dress in Victorian costume.

Twenty tickets for the Victorian evening are on sale and are $7.50 each. Tickets can be purchased from Dr. Rebecca Umland, UNK professor of English, at 308.865.8697 or Gloria LeDroit at 308.234.9812. Proceeds will be directed
towards restoration projects at the Frank House.

The second event, “By the Fireside with Charles Dickens,” is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 12.

Sponsored by the Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society, the Charles Dickens-aficionado event will feature members of the honor society reading excerpts from Dickens’ holiday writings. A light holiday tea will also be served during the readings.

Tickets for the Dickens readings, which are also available from Dr. Umland and LeDroit, are $5. Only 25 tickets are available, and those planning to attend are also encouraged to wear Victorian costumes.
