Members of the University of Nebraska at Kearney forensics team took second place at the “Talk of the Tundra” forensics tournament last weekend at Concordia University in Moorhead, Minn.
“Our second-place team sweepstakes finish at Concordia marks the first time in our ‘new era’ that we have won a team award,” said Rachelle Kamrath, director of UNK forensics. “We have enjoyed a tremendous amount of success in our first three weekends of competition. Our momentum from last season has proved to be a motivator, as we are already in a competitive position to be the fastest growing team in the Midwest.”
During the tournament all six UNK team members placed in their respective categories. Below is an overview of the individual results.
1st Place: Blake Thompson of Dalton, novice impromptu speaking
2nd Place: Kenny Hopkinson of North Platte, after-dinner speaking; Jacob
Enzminger of Columbus, dramatic interpretation
3rd Place: Grant Campbell of Tecumseh, communication analysis; Hopkinson
and Campbell, duo interpretation
4th Place: Stephanie Cunningham of South Bend, poetry interpretation
5th Place: Enzminger and Thompson, duo interpretation; Brandon Pettigrew of
Kearney, informative speaking and communication analysis
7th Place: Kenny Hopkinson, communication analysis
The following are the results of the first two competitions held earlier this fall
at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, Wyo., and Kansas State
University in Manhattan.
Laramie County Community College:
1st Place: Grant Campbell, prose interpretation
2nd Place: Grant Campbell, program of oral interpretation and communication
analysis
4th Place: Blake Thompson, after-dinner speaking

Kansas State University:
2nd Place: Kenny Hopkinson, communication analysis
